BOX & ROKKAKU KITES

Both the box kite and the Rokkaku kite are named for their shapes.  The Box kite is exactly that....a kite shaped like a box.  There are many variations of the box kite, but generally they are a  combination of cells with three to six sides.  The six-sided Rokkaku kite (also referred to as a Rok) was originally used by the Japanese as fighter kites.  Today competitors world-wide participate in this sport where opponents attempt to cut each others' lines by maneuvering and crossing their kites.
